chapter 9

 Kendrick was looking for Chris.  "Mr. Colin?" "Yes, kendrick?" "I want to ask you a question." "what about?" "your daughter." Kendrick looks down nervously. "man if you're going to ask me a question, ask me. I am too old for this." Chris jokes with him. "well sir, I wanted to know if it was alright if I  propose to Olivia. I love her sir." Chris breathes in and shakes his head.  "son, do you even know what love is?" Kendrick nods "yes sir I do.  love is something that doesn't have a definition.  love is an action. love is knowing what not to do to hurt the person you care the most about. love is the joy of seeing her smile after a hard day. love is knowing your wrong and admitting and doing everything in your power to make it right. " Chris laughs and smiles. "son, there are things in my life I regretted that I wish I had never done. I spent years trying to make it right.  every night I wondered if hadn't hurt the one I cared out, would things have been better than they are now? If i hadn't been so selfish maybe I could have been a better person. At your age, I was committing a murder and hurting the one woman I love. I missed out on my daughter's life. And looking at you, you're the man I should have been. I give you my daughter's hand. just don't prove me wrong. "  Kendrick looks at him and thanks him. "I won't sir."

after talking with Chris, Olivia pulls Kendrick to side. "so what were you and dad talking about?" Kendrick looks at her " oh nothing, just getting advice about business. your dad is a great businessman." he rubs his head. Olivia doesn't by his story, but she goes along with it. "ok hun, but I am on to you. you are up to something. "  Kendrick smiles. "babe, don't worry. I have nothing to hide. " she rolls her eyes "mmhmm... " she walks off. 

later that night, Zorah wanted to talk to her sister about something. "liv, am I pretty?" Olivia looks at her confused. "you are beautiful Zorah. why do you ask?" Zorah looks down. "because I don't have that special someone. all the guys at school think I am ugly. " Olivia laughs. "I am pretty sure they like you. you are one of the prettiest girls in your class Zorah. Plus you don't need to focus on boys. you need to keep your head in those books. look at me, I am training to be doctor.."  Zorah cuts her off. "but you have Kendrick." Olivia breathes in."Kendrick kinda just showed up." she laughs. "trust me sis, when the time is right, it will happen. just be you and be smart. that's the one thing mom taught us. am I right?" Zorah and Olivia smile. "your right sis. thank you. I needed that." 

the next day Chris decided to take Jackie on a date. they went to dinner and talked about the kids. and then they decided to play chess in the park. 

neither of them knew who won. for once, they just had fun. it was like when they were in high school again. minus the pain. 

they had an amazing night. 

the next day, the adults went on a vacation, leaving Zorah by herself.  she decided she wanted to through a party. and she invited her friends and while the party was going, she noticed two boys that crashed her party. they were cute. so she went to talk to them. turns out they are twins! Damien and Adrian.  Zorah was very attracted to the brothers. but she couldn't figure out who was who.  she let them stay at the party and get to know them. but it was late and they had to leave.  

but Zorah couldn't get them out her head. she had to know, which one was the one?
